Finding Balance

The last few weeks have been HECTIC.

I have to apologize to you all.

It’s Sunday.

It’s 1 pm.

I’m 4 coffees deep.

I have client work to do.

And I’ve only just started writing this newsletter.

Unfortunately, this means I’m going to have to keep this one a bit shorter than usual.

I was considering not even writing today’s newsletter due to how busy I am.

But I know that doing that will only reinforce bad habits and hurt me in the long run.

And I want to remain consistent with posting a newsletter every Sunday.

In saying that…

This gives me a great topic for today - finding balance.

To say that the last few weeks have been hectic would be a MASSIVE understatement.

Everything is moving incredibly fast…

I’ve been trying to balance:

  • Client work (I managed to land my first client)

  • Building a guide (that will be coming next week)

  • Engaging on Twitter (god it’s time-consuming)

  • Studying a course (go buy one, it’s the best ROI)

  • Going to the gym (this is non-negotiable)

  • Jumping into calls (I’ve met so many cool people)

But I’ve found that I just end up bouncing from task to task and not getting as much done as I would’ve liked.

This made me realize something…

In order for this to be sustainable in the long run, I’m going to need to balance my time and my tasks better.

So what’s my plan?

Prioritise:

At the start of each week, I’m going to write down one big goal that I’d like to achieve.

At the end of each night, I’m going to write down the one lever-moving task that will push me toward that goal for the following day.

At the start of each day, I’m going to focus on that lever-moving task and make sure it’s completed before I move on to other tasks.

And with the remaining time I have in my day, I’m going to dedicate an equal amount to the different tasks I have to do.

This plan isn’t foolproof, and I know I’m going to fail to do this at times.

But if I set this as a framework, I know that I will find a better balance over time and at least I have something to try and follow right?

Execute:

The key to this plan is actually executing it.

So how will I do that?

  • Get up at the same time every morning

  • Put my phone on ‘Do not disturb’

  • Leave it in my bedroom

  • Crank out the work

This is going to be easier said than done.

I have a tendency to just immediately jump on Twitter in the mornings and scroll the For You page to see what everyone is up to for the day.

But I’ve found that all this does is distract me from the tasks I actually need to get done.

Not good.

Finding a balance in life is something I’ve always struggled with and it’s hurt my productivity in the past.

If you struggle with productivity, I’d recommend coming up with a framework that will allow you to focus on the lever-moving tasks that will move you toward your goals.

Even if you don’t execute it perfectly, you’re still reinforcing good habits in your subconscious mind.

I’ve had success with this in regard to delayed gratification, diet, and health and fitness.

So I know it works.

The small wins always add up to better habits…

And these habits always compound into better outputs.

So in saying that.

My main focus for today, and this coming week is on my client work.

Things are finally happening for me, and I’d love to share with you how I managed to land my first client.

But….

I will save that for next week.

Time to get to work.

P.S.

If anyone would like to
